Blaise found a small, shiny prefect's badge by his bed when he awoke. He fixed it to his school robes and went to breakfast. Daphne Greengrass slid into the seat next to him. "Oo, shiny," she said, putting one hand on Blaise's shoulder and fingering the badge.

Blaise was uncertain what to make of her, but he was feeling a bit proud of his new badge. Crabbe and Goyle sat down across from him. "Malcolm said that Slughorn made you prefect," said Crabbe.

Blaise nodded. "I can dock points now. Pity he didn't do it to start with. I could have given Potter detention." The other boys smiled at the thought. Daphne had dropped her hands, but she was still sitting very close. Blaise felt a bit uncomfortable, but he thought that moving would let her think she had won something so he stayed were he was, ignored her, and smiled at Crabbe and Goyle.

Luca stretched and headed down into the common room, wearing silk pajamas and a long intricate sequined robe with swirling silver and greens. He trod across the common room to a table and looked over today's Prophet and smirked. He soon put on his slippers and headed to the Great Hall, sitting by Blaise, putting down the newspaper still reporting on the death sentence of the Death Eater.

"I am still not believing they executed that man, such barbarism you have in your justice."

He looked at Blaise, examining the Prefect badge. He grinned and stood up, looking at the 7th year and bowed with grace and courtesy.

"It is most befitting you, Mr. Zabini. It is making me most glad that it is you who have taken over the role of our missing Draco Malfoy."

Moonstone darted his eyes around, glad to see a few smiles on the others faces at his attempt to be civil. He then returned to sitting.

"Blaise, perhaps we could be bringing some of this good food back for you, for everyone, is it custom of my people for a great feast for a family member's accomplishments. Who agrees with me to feast there, in our common room later, and celebrate Blaise?"

Luca looked around for reactions, grinning.

Blaise's smile died away as Luca sat down. Since Daphne had fenced him in on the other side, he had been hoping for Tracey or Pansy to take that spot. Crabbe and Goyle caught his mood shift and glared at Luca imposingly. Daphne on the other hand smiled and waved.

"You're out of dress code," Blaise said, ignoring Luca's attempts to suck up.

Luca smiled, arching his back and cracking it.  "It's also Saturday, no classes, hence why I am not dressing in the standard attire."  He continued to eat, looking around for Pansy, making sure there is a space for her by him.  He gazed over at Malcolm who slunk down into his seat a bit, then back to Blaise.  "It makes me glad though that you are so adamant in your duties. Try the glazed ham, it is most succulent."

"We don't allow pajamas outside the common room, Moonstone," Blaise said in a biting tone. "Go change."

I think they're cute, Daphne mouthed to Luca from behind Blaise's back.

"Now," Blaise added.

Luca stood up and nodded to Blaise. He turned and bowed his head to Daphne, smiling. He took another bite and headed off to the common room.

"I vill be playing the music of my people again this afternoon, if any of you wish to join me."

With that he offered a hand to Daphne. After she offered it, he bowed and kissed the back of it.

"You vill honor me with your presence?"

She giggled a bit and nodded as he walked over with a quick stride, his robe flapping a bit behind him.

Blaise watched Luca leave, and then turned his frown on Daphne.

"Oh, don't be grumpy, Blaise," she said lightly. "You don't like Luca?"

"He tried to blow up Malcolm," Blaise said in a bored tone as if this was normal mealtime conversation. He saw Malcolm give him a grateful if slightly confused look. "That stuff that sent the Weasel girl to the hospital was intended for him."

Blaise could tell Crabbe and Goyle believed him immediately. Daphne however frowned. "I thought Malcolm got detention for that," she said.

"He did," Blaise said. "But he wasn't behind it. He was the target." Daphne gave him a confused frown, but nestled her arm on his. Blaise looked up and saw one of the girls come in. "Move," he muttered to Daphne in the same forceful tone he had used on Luca and pulled his arm out from under hers. She pouted, but dropped her arm and scooted over a few inches.

Promise smiled slightly and shook her head at the entire scene as she walked up to the Slytherin table. Charm apparently was not convinced Daphne had backed off quite enough and with an impressive bound assisted by her wings she leapt from Promise's shoulder to the table, skidded to a stop in front of Daphne and hissed.

Promise raised a brow at Daphne, "I don't think she likes you.  Don't take it personally...she doesn't like anyone... Play nice, Charm."

Promise then turned her attention to Blaise, "I still have your things. Catch up with me later, and I'll give them to you." She paused and smirked, "And...uh...nice badge."

She held out her arm and Charm flitted to it then climbed to her normal place on Promise's shoulder as they walked off.

Blaise smiled as Charm hissed at Daphne and reached out to give her a pat her while Promise spoke to him. She left quickly taking Charm with her, and Blaise watched them leave with a slightly baffled expression.

"What things?" Daphne asked. She was pouting and had a rather sour expression.

Blaise shrugged, "I have no idea."

Pansy walked into the Great Hall in time to see Luca walking out--in pajamas? "Out of standard uniform, Moonstone," she snapped, then kept walking to the Slytherin table. She was not pleased. The stupid half-breed goblin girl kept getting in trouble, which meant soon Pansy would have to dock points from her own house. She slid in on the other side of Blaise, nodded at Daphne, then turned, prepared to give a full report of how annoying Keket was.

And then she saw the badge. She smirked at Blaise, trying to conceal how much better she felt now. "So, Zabini, Slughorn's finally decided you're competent enough to be Prefect?" she asked lightly, reaching for the toast across from her.

Blaise shrugged. Though Pansy's smirk made him feel a lot better, he just returned her light tone. "He wasn't going to appoint a Death Eater's son," Blaise said. "I was the only choice left."

Luca was gone a few minutes as he returned to his dorm to change, muttering angrily, slipping into his usual attire and heading back to the Great Hall, resuming his seat and eating once again.

"I apologize if manner of dress upset, my friends."  He smiled and feasted, looking at Pansy. He blushed slightly as he sat up, straightening out his vest and puffing himself up a tad.  "Ms. Pansy, I assume you received message I sent you, vill you be attending the music tonight?"

He looked over at Blaise ever so quickly to see his reaction.

Blaise tensed slightly when Luca returned but kept his expression blank, waiting for a cue from Pansy.

Pansy stiffened when Luca brought up the note. True, she had left the flowers out on a table for anyone to claim, but had, for some reason, kept the jewels. She also hadn't completely rejected him in her letter back. She studied Luca for a moment, noting the way Blaise tensed beside her. She didn't particularly like Moonstone, but she didn't exactly dislike him, either. He was like a first year--annoying, underfoot, and something to hex if she was having a bad day.

However, his bluntness annoyed her. She frowned. "First off, Moonstone, keep to proper dress code inside the building so you won't upset us. Secondly, never assume anything about me. And thirdly, I happen to be busy tonight." She glanced at Blaise, for the first time in her life silently pleading with him to provide her with something to do that night.

"Prefect stuff," Blaise explained in a somewhat superior tone to Luca, hoping that he was catching Pansy's meaning.

Pansy smiled (as sincerely as she could) at Blaise quickly before turning back to Luca, sneer in place. "Exactly. So, sadly, I won't be able to attend 'the music'. And, in the future, Moonstone, do not send me girly presents, much less any presents, as I will never hear the end of it." She leaned in. "And if I don't, neither will you. And you won't like it." She sat back, bad mood having returned, and viciously attacked her breakfast.

Blaise smiled at Luca, clearly pleased by Pansy's dismissal of him, and then turned to Crabbe and Goyle. "You two doing Quidditch again this year?"

Luca smiled and sat up, looking at Pansy, not a touch of blush or embarrassment on his cheeks.

"If you do not wish presents, I will honor your request, barring Christmas of course.  One must have an ounce of class and respect for the fairer gender. Perhaps a meal then, at a later time."

He stopped for a moment, thinking on that last thing she said... "Might I add though, with the idea of not liking things. There are many things I feel I could grow to enjoy, especially if it meant I could have your fine company more often. But I digress, let us eat."

As Moonstone seemed to have finally stopped talking, Blaise decided to try to ignore him.

Hermione walked by the Slytherin table and saw everyone cooing over Blaise’s new shiny badge.

Hermione passed by Blaise, looked at his badge, and said, "What a disgrace" and shook her head as she walked off.

"Ew," Blaise said as Hermione walked off, remembering that she was Head Girl. "Does this mean we have to take orders from her?"
