By
the following morning, Arthur had recovered enough from the emotional
outpouring of the previous evening to finally get down to the business at hand.
He heard Molly moving about the next room preparing the children's breakfast
and for the moment felt bad that he couldn't stick around to help her clean up
after the wedding. He reassured himself that the security of Hogwarts was far
more important and began whistling to himself as he gathered together the
batteries and equipment he would need. Fortunately, he had dug up a copy of
something called "The Idiots Guide to Computers" in the Ministry and
it had come in remarkably handy.
He quickly bid Molly goodbye and apparated to the Ministry, where he gathered
together the half-dozen completed computers they had and cast a simple
shrinking spell in order to transport them all to Hogwarts. Within moments, he
was standing within the Great Hall, which was, at this point, completely empty
and took a seat in his old spot at the Gryffindor table to await Tonks'
arrival.
A few minutes later Tonks walked
into the Great Hall with a smile on her face.
"Good morning Arthur," Tonks said giving a slight yawn and scratching
at her short red hair. "I'm glad to see you brought that book, we're going
to need it." She smiled and sat on top of the table. "So, where do
you suppose we should start?"
Arthur smiled at Tonks, realizing
that he hadn't seen her at all the previous day at the wedding. It would be
something he would have to ask her about later.
"Well, McGonagall said that we could take over one of the rooms in the
dungeons. I guess part of what used to be Snape's rooms, so we'll have to be
very careful about left over charms and things." As he spoke, he lead
Tonks out of the Great Hall and the two made their way towards the room. As
they entered, Arthur raised his wand to whisper a cleansing spell, but he
stopped short. There was no point of inviting a talented witch like Tonks
along, if he were to do all the magic himself. He turned to Tonks. "I'll
begin to set up the computers, if you'd care to begin cleaning the room."
Arthur shuddered. "We have no idea what kind of spells might be left over
from that man's time here."
Tonks pulled out her wand from her
robes and said the incantation to a spell that detected any traping spell, or
anything dangerous to their health at the moment.
"Arthur, stay away from that closet for a few minutes. I'm getting a feed from it." Tonks
walked over to the closet and tried to open it. It wouldn't budge. She tried
using her wand, still to no luck. Finally, out of frustration, she kicked it.
"It's not budging. You can give it a go if you want. It looks like this is
going to be the only hitch."
"Hmm," Arthur joined
Tonks at the closet and studied the odd looking aura which was emanating from
it. He wasn't sure which charm Tonks had used, but he was going to have to
learn it from her sometime; it certainly seemed useful. Arthur attempted a few
general unlocked charms, but none seemed to work and finally got on his knees
and physically examined the lock. "Well, there's nothing physically
wrong with it, but Snape is an extremely . . . talented wizard, so who knows
what kind of charms he could have placed on this." Arthur twisted his
mouth and glared at the door, in what he thought to be a damn good imitation of
their current nemesis. "Do you have any ideas?"
"Well, the aura has this
slightly blue glaze to it, so it can't be too evil. It's when the aura has an
orange glaze to it, is when you'll be in trouble." Tonks gave the door a
small kick on it and turned to Arhur. "I'll work on it more during the
year. What do you need me to do to work on this computer thing?" Tonks
wandered over to where Arthur set up a pile of cords and began to untangle
them.
Arthur followed Tonks to the pile
of cords, which he had unfortunately not had the time to untangle before
heading over to Hogwarts. "Well, setting these things up seems fairly
straight forward," he motioned to his copy of Computers for Dummies.
"The only problem may lie with this power cell I've rigged up."
Arthur unconsciously began fumbling with a few of the dials. "It should
work despite the anti-electric spells around Hogwarts. Only problem could lie
if Snape left something . . . unpleasant behind." He began setting up one
computer.
After what seemed like hours,
Tonks and Arthur stood back and admired their work. It took a few test trys but
by their fourth try, the two of them managed to get everything to work.
"Well, there we go. Congrads Arthur, we've managed to give the kids
something special." Tonks looked at her watch. "Damn." she
grumbled. "I hate to build and run, but I've got a meeting with the other
Head of Houses, and Minerva, I'll see you later!!" Tonks gave Arthur a
friendly wave goodbye and took off running down the corridor, once again late
for a meeting.
