Lucius tried not to tug at the ends of his shirt collars as he sat, attempting for what seemed to be the dozenth time to get through a passage of Alexander Antiquus' edition of Napoleon and the Wizarding World, but found himself simply staring into the remarkably entrancing pattern of wallpaper that lay around him. He didn't think that he had ever seen anything quite as unattractive and yet lately, he had been able to focus on little else. He practically growled, tossing the book into a nearby chair as he stood and slowly began pacing, unconsciously counting the number of boards which creaked as he passed across them, while dreaming about the wonderfully sound-proof office which was resting uninhabited in the manor. He frown and suddenly grasped his cane from where it sat beside him and headed towards his and Narcissa's chambers. They had spent remarkably little time together since his return and although this was not the first time he had done so, Lucius concluded to do something about it. “Florus” he muttered, feeling a rather copious bouquet of flowers appear in one hand, before he raised his cane and knocked its head against their chamber door several times, knowing that Narcissa would almost certainly still be inside.

Narcissa heard a knock, and put her book on the bedside table. She walked to the door, and opened it.

"Lucius?" Narcissa said, a little surprised. "You don't have to knock, you know...You brought me flowers?" Narcissa said with a smile, and turned to let him in.

Lucius followed his wife into their chambers, suddenly feeling like they were seventeen again and he was courting her at the Black residence. He couldn't help but frown at what had been done to that ancient house. "Yes, of course, darling." He handed the flowers to his wife, but grasped her shoulder before she could escape and gently kissed her.

Narcissa responded to Lucius's kiss and hugged him softly.

"So...what's the occasion?" Narcissa asked, and nodded toward the flowers. "They're beautiful, Lucius. Thank you," Narcissa said, and gave him a kiss.

Lucius retained his hand in the small of his wife's back and smiled, as charmingly as he could. "Does a man need an occasion to give flowers to his wife?" Although he sounded offended, he was anything but and he knew that Narcissa would understand. She was always so good at that. "But I thought that you might like to join me for dinner?"

Dramatically waving one arm in the direction of their small sitting area Lucius thought: Mensa maxima, and watched as an intimate table for two appeared, heavily laden down with food. It was a charm which he had begun working on when they were first married and the showman in Lucius loved to occasionally pull it out for Narcissa.

"Lucius, of course I'd love to join you for dinner. You don’t even have to ask," Narcissa said, conjuring a vase for the flowers.

Narcissa absolutely loved it when Lucius was in a mood like this. He was very romantic and sweet, and she was very glad that he was finally home.

Lucius conjured an intimate table for two, something that he occasionally loved to do for Narcissa. She loved it when he showed his romantic side.

Lucius watched as Narcissa conjured a vase for his flowers before taking her hand and leading her to the table. For a moment he thought about summoning one of the house-elves to help, but chose against it, knowing that Narcissa would prefer privacy to the luxury of a servant. Lucius frowned at the concept of a servant being a 'luxury.' He released her hand, allowing her to eat, but watched her for a moment before beginning himself.

"Darling, we should have done this earlier." He smiled again, enjoying the sight of his wife. She had aged, certainly, but then they both had and yet she had attained a majesty with her years that she had not possessed in her youth. It was a quality which fascinated him and he was certain that she held herself exactly as if she were a queen. "I'm curious to know how you spent this past year?" It was a vague question and yet it was the truth. Narcissa had spoken hardly at all about their time apart.

Narcissa looked up at her husband, and set down her fork.

"Well, I've been doing a few things with the house. I did a little redecorating here and there...I also spent some time with Bella and Draco last summer. Why do you ask?" Narcissa asked curiously.

"Is it a crime for a man to wonder what his wife has been up to in his absence?" Lucius smiled, then reached across to grasp Narcissa's hand. Although he would never admit it, Lucius was insanely jealous of his wife's occasional indiscretions. He stopped himself from frowning and instead quickly changed the subject. "I'm sorry you had to go through the ministry searches. They didn't disturb you too much I hope?"

Narcissa looked into Lucius's eyes, and said with a smile, "No, Lucius, it's not a crime".

"The searched didn’t bother me much...they were more of an inconvenience than anything though. And the Daily Prophet constantly wanting a comment from me..." Narcissa sighed. "It was just annoying, really."

Narcissa looked at her husband, and realized how much she had missed him the past year.

"I'm glad it was not too much of an inconvenience for you. Even if it was that idiot Weasley who performed the searches." Lucius stopped for a moment, before continuing. "They didn't find anything, did they?"

"Well, right after you were sent to Azkaban, they searched our manor, and they did find quite a lot, actually. But, after that, they didn't find anything," Narcissa replied, with a sigh.

"I've missed you a lot, Lucius. I'm glad you're back," Narcissa said smiling, looking into his eyes.

Lucius smiled at his wife's honesty, but didn't immediately answer back. Just because he wasn't as open with his feelings as she was, it didn't mean that she didn't know just how much he had missed her as well.

"Well, I don't know about you, but I'm not particularly hungry, at the moment." Lucius gently stroked his wife's hand with his thumb. "Would you care to dance?" He stood, mentally projecting Carmen and light music filled the room. Taking his wife's hand, he pulled her gently into his arms. He knew they would probably spend the better part of the evening in this position and certainly wasn't unhappy at the prospect. It would be an evening well spent.
