Seamus bolted to the fireplace, his new Nimbus 2002 in hand. It had arrived
not 5 minutes before, and Seamus had hastily unwrapped it as soon as his owl had
let go. He Flooed to the public quidditch pitch he spent a lot of time with his
friends at, and was in the air before he left the locker rooms.
He soared along the pitch, and it took him a while to become comfortable
with the amazing control of the new broom. He took a few climbs, wove between
the crowd seating, and after a while, decided to venture into the nearby woods.
It was much more intense, dodging trees and vines; they were much more dense.
He landed, and as he pulled out a bottle of water, He thought he heard a
familiar voice. He made his way back to the pitch, and standing in the middle
of the pitch, holding a quidditch ball set, was _____. Seamus walked onto the
pitch, and over to greet them.
"Oi! How are ya? Haven’t seen you in a while!"
"I breath,"
Zabini said, waving the greeting aside as if it was an annoying gnat. "I
thought the pitch might be clear this time of day, but since you're here, I'll
use you."
"Use me, eh? That
works, If I want to be on the team this year I need to get some more training
in anyway."
Zabini dropped the ball
trunk lazily and kicked it open. "Which position?"
"Beater,"
Seamus said, picking up one of the bats in the set.
Blaise considered
Finnigan for a minute, then he pointed his wand at the trunk, which flew open.
He unfastened the snitch, and released it with an elegant move as though
releasing a bird.
Blaise mounted his broom (the new Sonic Duster model), kicked off, and
hovered about ten feet in the air. He pointed his wand at the trunk again and
the chains holding the two restless bludgers fell away. The bludgers shot into
the air.
"Protect me then," Zabini said, before speeding off.
Zabini shot off the
ground, chasing after the snitch. The bludgers sprang into action, and began
shooting around the pitch. The first one flew toward Zabini. "Two
bludgers, and just me as a beater?" Seamus thought. He shot into the air, and
made straight for where the bludger would be in 5 seconds. He reached it, and
with a wide swing his bat connected with the bludger. Zabini swooped around,
still chasing after the snitch, as the other bludger flew toward him. Seamus
pulled his broom around and went after that one, and just as he neared it he
saw the OTHER bludger coming around and heading toward Zabini. The speed and
handling of his new broom helped, but after only a few minutes he was being
worked hard by the bludgers.
Zabini flew on as though
he took no notice of the bludgers or Seamus's increasingly frantic attempts to
beat them away. He got close enough to touch the snitch a few times, but never
reached out his hand for it. He pressed his body against his broom, trying to
go faster and faster.
Zabini was getting close
to the snitch, but it was still out of reach. From what Seamus could tell, he
never even noticed the bludgers coming after him or Seamus's bat smacking them
away. He'd make a damn good seeker for Slytherin, that’s for sure. Zabini shot
forward in a sudden burst of speed, as Seamus began to finally get into the
flow of beating back one bludger, then taking care of the next. The bludgers
were relentless, but Seamus kept going after them, wondering how long he could
keep it up.
One of the bludgers came
at Zabini dead-on. Seamus tried to speed up to intercept it, but there was only
so much speed he could get out of his 2002. Zabini twisted his broom to one
side, but the bludger changed direction as well. It grazed his shoulder, which
was no light hit at their speed. Zabini let out a grunt of pain and anger.
Abandoning the snitch, he pulled out his wand and aimed it at the bludger.
"Oppimere!" he shouted and the bludger turned into powder.
Seamus was getting worn
out. Zabini twisted this way and that, he was having a hard time keeping up
while beating away he bludgers. One
turned back toward Zabini, and Seamus leaned forward for speed, but he was at
his limit. The bludger was just beyond
his reach, and it connected with Zabini's shoulder. He yelled out, and pulled
out his wand. He shouted a spell, and the bludger turned to powder.
Seamus landed, a little
out of breath. He sat down for a moment, breathing heavily, running his hand
through his hair. Zabini had landed, and walked over to him.
"Duck," said
Zabini.
