Arthur hummed lightly to
himself as he appeared within the Ministry offices and slipped his pointed hat
onto the nearby coat-rack. Reaching into one pocket, he pulled out his wand
and, approaching his office, subtly glanced about before pointing the wand at
his door and mumbling the password. "Rubber Duckies." True to form,
the door swung open and Arthur entered the Office for the Detection and Confiscation
of Counterfeit Defensive Spells and Protective Objects. Or "Fraud
Detection" as the department was more commonly referred to. It was
certainly different from his previous work and yet Arthur enjoyed it just the
same. Perhaps much about the Ministry was ineffective at this point, but he
hoped that in some small way his contribution made a difference. Although he
couldn't help but scowl as he approached his desk, where a mound of scrolls and
papers had accumulated over the weekend. Glancing about the large office,
Arthur sought out any sign of his companions, but knowing many of their habits
assumed that they were either out on jobs already, or taking a long weekend. Of
course Arthur knew that the latter ought to be let go, but he could never seem
to fire anyone. The one time he had attempted to do so he hadn't been able to
sleep for a month worrying about the woman's family and finally hired her back.
Tentatively he lifted the top scroll and watched as it released several scrolls
which were lined up beside it and they rolled to bounce across the floor
towards his neighbour's desk. Sighing, he pointed his wand in their direction
and quickly re-organized the desk to avoid losing anymore assignments. Sitting
down, Arthur slipped the scroll open and began perusing its contents. His
humming stopped as he read Rufus Scrimgeour's request for yet another search of
Malfoy Manor. This was probably the fourth search which Arthur had been
requested to perform upon the residence and when asked if there was something
in particular which he ought to be searching for, Scrimgeour had simply smiled
cryptically and answered that he would know it when he found it. Although not
usually one to doubt his abilities, Arthur was quickly becoming convinced that
he would never actually find what Scrimgeour expected him to. Sighing,
Arthur put the scroll aside and began reading through the other scrolls as he
waited for his colleagues to return.
