Ron sat down at the kitchen table, rubbing his face with his
hands. Harry had been gone for two days and they hadn't heard from him. Ron
wasn't really concerned with Bill or Charlie being gone. Hell, they were gone
all the time. But it wasn't like Harry to leave without, at the very least,
telling him that he was or where he was going.
Getting up, he poured himself a cup of juice before sitting down again, sifting through the magazines, papers, and books that littered the table.
“Ron, what if Harry got wind of the fact that Bellatrix found a way to access the fortunes at Number Twelve?” Hermione asked showing him the owl she'd received. She turned to look at Mrs. Weasley. “What should we do?”
"How would he have known?" he asked, looking up at her. Taking the letter, he scanned it, frowning. "We haven't gotten any post for Harry lately. This is just frustrating," he said, massaging his temple.
Molly pressed her lips together. "We have people at both number twelve and at Gringott's," she said. "So if Harry shows up at either, they'll let us know. But if he goes looking for Bellatrix..." Molly shuddered involuntarily.
"Oh, Mum. Don't think like that. I, honestly, don't see how he would even know about Bellatrix. He's been here for a good two weeks and hasn't gotten any owls. Unless she's telepathically sending him warnings, I just don't see how he could know," Ron said.
Ginny had been upstairs wandering around when she could have sworn she heard the words "post from Harry" and bounded down the stairs.
"What's that about Harry?" She asked, trying not to sound too anxious to hear the answer.
"We, unfortunately, still have nothing," Ron said, looking up at his little sister. "Mum thinks Harry might have gone looking for Bellatrix, but I just don't see how it's possible that he would have known about the transferring of assets."
Ginny bit her lip and looked down. Yeah, excited for nothing. "Oh, I see. I hope he didn't go after Bellatrix, she's absolutely mad."
"That is the absolute understatement of the bloody year, Gin," Ron said, sighing.
Ginny walked to the table and sat down, putting her head in her hands, "Yeah, I suppose it is. If she does something to him, I swear..." she trailed off, not really sure what she'd actually do.
Ron reached over, touching Ginny's hand lightly. "He'll be fine. He's been alone before. He knows not to do anything too stupid without letting someone know where he is first," Ron said, softly. "And if she does anything to him, we all swear..." he said.
Ginny sighed, somewhat comforted by the presence of Ron's hand, but still feeling anxious. "I know he can handle himself, and if it were anyone else, really, I'd be even more concerned. I just hate that he's out there all alone and I don't even know where he is or what he's doing," she nodded in agreement.
"We're all a bit scared, Gin. But all we can really do is sit and wait to hear something from him." As she began to object, Ron raised his hand. "I know. No one likes to just sit, Ginny. But we have to. There is no use putting everyone in danger by doing something rash. He will be fine."
"If it was one of us, Harry would have done something rash." Ginny said, even though she knew that Ron was right. She hated not knowing even more than she hated not doing something about it.
"Possibly. But you know that Harry would not want you chasing after him. It's not safe. And it's not a good idea. Ginny, believe me. I know it's difficult to just sit back and wait. He's my bloody best friend. I understand your want, your need, to know what's going on. But you can't risk doing something to put yourself in danger. Harry wouldn't want you to," he said, his emotions straining. He did know how she felt. But they really couldn't do anything about it. However much either of them wanted to.
Ginny looked up at her brother, sadness and resignation in her eyes, "I know, Ron. I know he wouldn't. I'm just worried and scared, and I wish there was something I could do." In some part of her mind, she did know that Ron was right, as much as she hated to admit it.
"Me too, Ginny. Me too," he said at a whisper.
"Besides," Molly added, starting to whip up some eggs with a bit more fervor than they probably needed. "He's not alone. He's got Bill and Charlie with him." They had best be with him, she thought, or she would have to beat them soundly when they put their heads up again.
Ginny was much more comforted by this reminder than she would have thought she'd be, and allowed herself to relax in her chair. At least he wasn't alone. "We're sure he's with Bill and Charlie? Have either of you spoken to them?" Ginny asked, looking between the faces around her.
"No," Molly admitted. "We haven't heard from
them. But I know they're looking after Harry. Call it a mother's intuition."
Molly glanced out of habit at the grandfather clock...all its hands still on "mortal peril", which was not very helpful at all.
Ginny nodded, knowing that her mother was generally right about those sorts of things. Especially since had there been any doubt in her mother's mind, she'd probably be running around like a chicken with her head cut off, or some such thing. "Still be nice to hear from them when he just disappears like that." She said, slightly annoyed with her brothers for doing what seemed to her like keeping her out of the loop. She was beginning to understand how Harry felt two years ago when he had stayed at the Dursleys for over a month without news.
Suddenly the door rang, and Ginny went to open it. And what did she find but not Harry, Bill AND Charlie, outside waiting...
Ginny felt a rush of excitement and then relief. She threw both of her arms around Harry's neck, pulling him into a tight hug. "Don't you ever scare me like that again," she said with a bit of a laugh, looking over to her brothers and setting out to hug them both.
