Draco rapped on the door to Snape's potions lab. "Sir, are you in?" he asked cracking the door open.

Snape was sitting in a chair by the hearth with a book in his hands. He muttered the release words for the ward that went off when Draco opened the door to his chamber.

"Yes?" he asked unpleasantly.

Draco opened the door more widely and stepped inside. "I, well, I wanted to ask you something." Draco paused, glanced at the door, and shut it firmly behind him. "I wanted to ask you...I mean I thought you might know. What is a Horcrux?"

Severus glared at Draco. He stood up, feeling uncomfortable being the only one sitting. He caste a bunch of silence wards around the room and locked it from anyone further from entering?

"What do you know about Horcruxes?"

Draco took a few steps back from Snape, remembering what Zabini had said about his mother, as he locked the door. "Nothing," Draco admitted, quite honestly. "I just found the word, but I can't find what it means."

Severus stared at Draco for a moment, debating on whether he should send him on his way or just tell the boy what he knew.

"Sit down," he hissed.

After Draco took his seat he passed in front of the fire, deciding how to begin.

"Horcrux..." he began, "…is an inanimate object that has been incased with a piece of someone’s soul. In order to do such a thing, the maker must do a series of complicated things, which I do not know much about. The only thing I do know is it involves murdering someone." He lectured as best as he could about Horcrux for the next half hour. Not knowing the entire time if he should be unveiling such facts.

After he was finished, he thought it best to give the boy some time to think on the matter and cast a curse on him so he wouldn't be able to talk about anything that happened that night for the next week. Only when he talked to Severus about it a week from then, would he be free to talk to anyone else about it.

After seeing Draco's shocked face when he cast that unexplained piece of magic he smirked. He explained the object of the curse and told him to think wisely.

"This isn't knowledge most wizards are privileged enough to know about, and I don't want you getting any foolish ideas or spreading the word around. It's very advanced...very dark, magic." he sneered.

Draco felt a wave of something go through him, and then it was gone before he could fully take note of it. He had a lot to think about now. "Thank you, sir," Draco said...still feeling oddly thoughtful and light headed at the same time, like there was gap between the back of his brain and his mouth. He wanted to leave to think things over, but he felt like was back in Hogwarts, bound to his chair, awaiting the bell. After a minute, he raised his hand tentatively. "May I go now?"

Snape gave a hard nod, and turned to his door. He began to take off all the wards so Draco would be able to leave freely.

Draco gave Snape a vague "goodnight". He walked out of the room and headed up the passage into the main house. He started to head towards his room but remembered something he had promised to do for Aunt Bella.

After Draco left Severus re-applied all the wards so no one could enter his room, and then crawled into bed.
